How can I be hosted by an institution in France?

• Higher education and research institutions under the aegis of the French Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Innovation
• EESPIG-designated private higher education institutions,
• Institutions under the aegis of the French Ministry of Culture.

You are eligible for the PAUSE program whatever your geographical origin (outside the European Union) or discipline if you meet all of the following criteria:

• you can prove doctoral student, researcher, teacher-researcher or artist-teacher status in your country of origin;
• you are in a crisis situation due to the security situation in your country of origin and/or persecution or fear of persecution due to your ethnicity, religion, political convictions, opinions, sexual orientation, or the content of your research and/or teaching;
• you are being forced to go into exile from your country of origin, or have left your country of origin less than three years ago.

Applicants must be 65 years of age or less at the time of application.

To receive support from the PAUSE program, you must first identify a higher education or research institution which can potentially host you.

This institution will prepare and submit your application to the PAUSE program. This involves submitting a co-funding application in response to one of the three annual calls for applications.

Calendar of forthcoming sessions:

The PAUSE program can help you co-fund your hosting and support for a maximum period of one year, or for a minimum of six months.

Funding can be renewed once. Your institution will be required to submit an application for renewal. It will be evaluated on the basis of the progress of your research and results.

At the end of the hosting period, both you and your host institution must submit a review form to the PAUSE program.

L’équipe PAUSE peut vous accompagner dans votre recherche d’un établissement d’accueil. Pour cela, vous devez vous inscrire auprès du programme et être présélectionné.

Comment bénéficier de cet accompagnement ?

Le formulaire de candidature (en français, en anglais) renseigné en ligne doit être accompagné des pièces justificatives suivantes :

1 – Curriculum vitae détaillé incluant la liste de vos publications
2 – Présentation de votre projet de recherche
3 – Document justifiant votre statut de chercheur ou enseignant-chercheur
4 – Témoignage personnel sur votre situation de danger
5 – Attestation sur l’honneur dûment complétée et signée. Télécharger l’attestation
6 – Copie du passeport et/ou titre de séjour

• L’équipe PAUSE vérifie votre éligibilité sur la base de votre statut et de l’urgence de votre situation.

• Si vous êtes éligible, l’équipe PAUSE pourra vous conseiller pour identifier un établissement susceptible de vous accueillir.

En quoi consiste l’accompagnement ?

Le programme PAUSE partage votre profil auprès de son réseau d’établissements partenaires volontaires à l’accueil d’un chercheur ou d’une chercheuse en danger. Il contacte également directement des laboratoires œuvrant dans votre domaine d’expertise.

L’annonce de votre éligibilité au programme PAUSE ne vous assure en aucun cas qu’un établissement acceptera de vous accueillir. Ainsi, il vous faudra démarcher les établissements dont les axes de recherche correspondent aux vôtres et susceptibles d’être intéressés par votre profil. Il s’agit donc d’un travail en commun avec le programme PAUSE. Il implique un véritable engagement de votre part dans le processus de recherche.

Comment procéder une fois l’établissement identifié ?

L’établissement candidat devra déposer un dossier de candidature en répondant à l’un des trois appels annuels ou, si votre situation l’exige, en recourant à la procédure d’urgence.

Applications are evaluated by the PAUSE program Scientific Committee according to the following criteria:

• the level of urgency of the risk experienced by the applicant;
• the quality of the scientific or artistic project;
• the social and professional support system.

The PAUSE program Executive Committee selects applicants on the basis of referrals from the Scientific Committee. Its decisions are final.

You will be informed of the PAUSE program’s decision directly by the host institution.

Given the sensitive nature of your data and communications with your host institution and the PAUSE program, the following measures have been put in place:

• Supporting documents submitted with the application which could be used to identify you (passport, residence permit) will be neutralized by the institution by adding the word “specimen” as a watermark or manually. This prevents identity theft if these documents are intercepted online.
• Applications by email will not be accepted. Institutions can only submit applications via the secure application platform.
• If you have particular confidentiality constraints, please contact the PAUSE team which will set up a secure email communication procedure.
